What’s going on at ASQA right now?

It’s always instructive to take a trip around key VET-related websites every so often. This time, for us, it’s ASQA’s turn.

They have recently announced the appointment of a new National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Advisory Council. The establishment of the advisory council was a key recommendation of the 2020 Rapid Review of ASQA’s governance, culture and regulatory practice.

The members

The council is chaired by Peter Costantini OAM. Its other members are Professor Valerie Braithwaite, Renee Hindmarsh, Grant Klinkum, Adrienne Nieuwenhuis, Neil Quarmby and Dr Don Zoellner. A few well-known names here!

ASQA CEO Saxon Rice points out that the members have been appointed for their expertise in governance, regulation, industry engagement, and education and training, and that:

“The appointment of the Advisory Council will facilitate continuous improvement of ASQA’s governance practices and improve ASQA’s access to high-level ongoing expert advice, including in relation to ASQA’s strategic objectives and approach to regulation.”

But wait, there’s more!

ASQA’s April update notes that ASQA has been nominated to act as the national training package assurance body. In addition, there is some information on its website as ASQA moves towards a greater focus on self-assurance. This link provides some details about the latest state of play.

There is useful information for RTOs here as well.

Finally, ASQA periodically undertakes strategic reviews on key topics. The latest one, as regular VDC News readers will know, has focused on online delivery. You can take a look at the current state of play with this one here. We’ll be keeping an eye on the outcomes of this review when they are published.
