CEO Message – Is the VET Sector ready for the NDIS?

This post was originally published on this site

With the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) the Disability workforce will need to grow significantly – some estimates by up to 75 per cent. Given the predicted expansive workforce, how and what are the implications for providers in targeting and contextualising training to cover the required knowledge and skills that this workforce will need? Is the VET sector ready for NDIS?

On Thursday 31 August, the VDC is presenting the Implication of the NDIS on RTOs Forum at our new CBD premises in Melbourne. We are bringing together a range of workforce, disability and training experts to discuss the impact of NDIS on training providers in Victoria. The presenters include Shaun Corcoran Chair, TAFE Disability Network, David Moody National Disability Services, Prof David Hayward, VCOSS – RMIT Future Social Services Institute, Kevin Stone Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with Disability (VALiD), as well as representatives from the Australian Council for Educational Research. The focus of the forum will on what the NDIS means for Training Providers and includes:

  • The NDIS, the workforce and skills needs
  • Big picture, workforce impacts and projected role of FSSI
  • The NDIS and the current and future workforce
  • Key issues for skills development

Due to the overwhelming popularity of this Forum we intend to hold similar forums on broader VET topics in the future. We will keep you posted.
