As part of our Thought Leadership Series for 2019, VDC is pleased to present International Specialised Skills Institute (ISSI) fellowship recipient Jan Davis from Holmesglen Institute of TAFE. Jan will outline findings from a UK study tour and the subsequent pilot with the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Jan Davis works at Holmesglen Institute of TAFE in the Community and Transitional Education department within the Faculty of Health, Science, Youth and Community Studies.<\/p>\n

In 2017 Jan undertook the fellowship to explore supported internships. The fellowship was based at West Thames College and Ealing, Hammersmith & West London’s College, all of whom are affiliated with employer partners.<\/p>\n

The aim of the research was to investigate vocational training opportunities for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities, with an emphasis on developing industry partnerships that enhance vocational pathways.<\/p>\n

Since the fellowship, in consultation with key personnel from the Faculty and the Chief of Surgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital, an Industry partnership has been established. A pilot Integrated Practical Placement program was introduced in 2018 and a research project was undertaken through the clinical chair at Holmesglen, with outstanding results.<\/p>\n
